When Wi-Fi says connected but websites will not load, the wireless connection may be working while the router has lost its internet connection. Test the simplest possibilities first.

Compare another device

Try opening a familiar website on a second device using the same Wi-Fi. If every device is offline, focus on the router or provider. If only one device is affected, focus on that device’s network settings.

Restart equipment in order

Save online work, unplug the router and modem if they are separate, wait about 30 seconds, then power them back on. Allow a few minutes for the connection to settle before testing again.

Forget and reconnect

On the affected device, forget the network and reconnect using the correct password. Check Airplane mode, VPN settings and any recent network changes. Avoid resetting all network settings unless simpler checks fail.

Check for an outage

Look at your internet provider’s official service-status page or contact it using a number from your bill. Do not rely on phone numbers displayed in unrelated pop-ups or search advertisements.

Keep it safe: Never share passwords, payment details or one-time security codes with unexpected callers or pop-ups. When a step could affect important data, back up first and use official support resources.
